He was born July 14, 1941, in Phoenix, Arizona to the late William Ray Young, Sr. and Mardell Loraine Herget. He graduated from Camelback High School. After graduation he worked at various automotive related businesses including Rayco where he met Karen Ruth Eggestein, his wife of 51 years. They were married on May 14, 1966, at which time she gained a son, William (Bill Jr.) Troy Young, and he gained a daughter, Catherine (Cathy) Lee Huling. Bill had gone to work for Globe Discount Stores Automotive Center before the marriage and continued working in El Paso for them before moving to San Antonio. They spent 18 years in Texas before deciding to move back to Arizona in 1983. They built their home in Linden outside of Show Low with their own hands and some help. Afterwards, Bill looked for employment; finding none they purchased Future Tire, an existing tire shop that is now called Young’s Future Tire, Inc. Before his retirement he had grown the company to four locations here in the White Mountains. Both of his children worked for him for many years before he retired, leaving his legacy to them. During this time Bill and Karen found their love of travel, eventually visiting over 70 countries together. Their favorite continent was Africa where they traveled to every South African country as well as Morocco and Egypt. The safaris with game drives, wonderful tour guides, sleeping in a bed under the stars in Botswana, the food, the wine, the people, kept them going back many times. Through their travels they met a lot of wonderful friends who remained in contact and traveled with them to other destinations. When not traveling to places near and far, you could find Bill tending his garden, his beautiful lawn, the hundreds of flowers, plants and trees that he planted every spring. His garden was the best around and so many reaped the benefits of his experience and hours of labor. Bill learned a valuable culinary talent while living in Texas that he improved on everytime, which was his famous smoked brisket, ribs, sausage and chicken. For ten years, they shared the barbequed meats and fixins with family, friends and neighbors at their home in Timberland Acres. It became quite legendary! Even after their annual feasts ended, he continued to smoke these wonderful meats for family and friends until his passing. Not only did he love the animals on Safari, but he adored his many cats and dogs throughout his life. He spent hours upon hours with his favorites in his lap. Some of his favorite cats would follow him around as he tended his garden and yard along with Abby. He leaves behind his faithful dog, Abby, and loving cats, Carly, Prince and Bruiser. Bill will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, Karen, son Bill (Diane) Young, daughter Cathy (Wyatt) Huling, brother Larry (Barbara) Young, sister Swanee (Ron) Rickard and sister Carol; Grandchildren Laura (Brian) Brooks, Krystal (Matt) Clough, William (Billy) Young, Bubby (Amanda) Huling, and Rebekah Young; Great-grandchildren Hunter, Scottie, Toby, Jarrett, Kameron, Hailey, Laykin, Marissa, and Shane; as well as many other family members, close friends and business friends.
