Violet Anna Petersen died late Tuesday night, February 5, 2019, at The Carriage House in Snowflake, Arizona from causes incident to her age. She was 93 years old. Violet was born on a Tuesday, May 19, 1925, in Snowflake, Arizona to her parents, the late Thorvald Abraham and Margaret Madora (Hancock) Petersen.
During WWII, Violet worked on planes in Kingman, Arizona. Like "Rosie the Riveter", she possessed a "can do spirit" that helped to mold her into a strong woman. Shortly after meeting William L. Wolfe in Kingman, the couple married in 1944. In 1945, their son, Lester E. "Gene" Wolfe was born in Denver, Colorado. After the war ended, the family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where, a few years later in 1949, they welcomed the birth of their daughter, Janet Wolfe. They lived in Oklahoma City for several years and then moved west to California. In 1967, they moved one more time and have, since, called Clay Springs, Arizona their "home." Sadly, William passed away in December of 1971. Throughout her long life, her children brought her the greatest amount of joy. That joy was increased ten-fold when her grandsons and great-grandchildren came along. Family meant everything to her and how she looked forward to spending time with them all.
Violet was a woman who possessed many skills and talents. She was an expert quilter and, literally, made dozens of quilts through the years. Those who have one of her homemade quilts now consider them to be priceless treasures. Though, she was a nurse in the healthcare industry for many years, she also enjoyed the simple life of being a farmer. Violet was blessed with the "proverbial green thumb" and was a gardener at heart. She loved working in the yard tending to her seasonal flowers and growing impressive plants. Her home was a showplace and anyone who passed by had a beautiful yard to behold.
Violet is survived by her son, Gene (Terry Stambler) Wolfe of California; her daughter, Janet (Bob) Quackenbush of Clay Springs, Arizona; 2 grandsons: Robert (Jackie Schaub) Quackenbush, Eric (Becky Marlowe) Quackenbush; 2 great-grandchildren: Emma Quackenbush and Matthew Quackenbush.
The graveside service for Violet, officiated by Bishop Daryl Perkins, will begin 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at the Clay Springs Cemetery in Clay Springs, Arizona where she will be laid to rest alongside her sweet William.
Violet's family is thankful for the kind expressions of sympathy they have received during this difficult time and are especially grateful for all of the prayers offered up on their behalf. They also want to publicly thank the caring staff of The Carriage House for the compassion and tender loving care they bestowed upon Violet. The friend that Violet had in Patti Matyas was precious to her, and Patti held a special place in her heart for Violet.
