Verona Gail Jarvis

October 14, 1940 — December 11, 2020

Verona Gail Jarvis died in the very early morning hours of Friday, December 11, 2020, at her home in Snowflake, Arizona of natural causes.  She was 80 years old.  Verona was born on Monday, October 14, 1940, in Mount Airy, Surry County, North Carolina to her parents, the late Joseph Arnold and Delia Geneva (Hiatt) Sechrest.

Immediately following her high school graduation, Verona moved to Provo, Utah to attend Brigham Young University.  On November 28, 1960, she married her "Forever Sweetheart", Blaine Louis Jarvis in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  The following year, in 1961, Verona graduated from BYU with her Bachelor's Degree in Education.  Together, Blaine and Verona reared 5 children into becoming some pretty great people.  Along with her being a fulltime mother, Verona also tackled a successful 33 year career as an elementary school teacher for the Snowflake School District.  She was a favorite there.

Verona was one of the founding members of Liberty Belles in 1975.  She was an active member of that singing group until 1995 and had the privilege to perform with them in countless concerts during its 20 year run.  Verona was a lifelong, faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Throughout her life, Verona served in many church callings including that of Stake Relief Society President and Stake Primary President.  One of her favorite callings though, was that of being a visiting teacher.  She loved her Ward Sisters and looked forward to serving them in any way she was able.  From 2003 to 2005, she and Blaine served a mission for the Church back in her native North Carolina. Oh, how grateful she was to be able to do that with him!  She possessed a deep and abiding faith in her Savior and loved His gospel and did her best to live it daily.  She was an avid reader and along with her daily scripture study, she read all types of literature.  Her favorite reads were her Agatha Christie novels.  She loved to crochet and, over the years, made afghans for every one of her grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Verona was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine, in March of 2019, and a great-granddaughter, GiGi Jarvis.  She is survived by her 5 children:  Blaine Louis, Jr. (Dawn) Jarvis, Janet (Lee) Funkhouser, Kelly (Jennifer) Jarvis, Mitch (Shiela) Jarvis, Ryan (Megan) Jarvis; 2 siblings:  Wayne (Nancy) Sechrest, Sherita (Adrian) Jarrell; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, the ONLY PUBLIC VIEWING will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, December 18, 2020, in the Cultural Hall at the Main Street Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 48 Main Street in Snowflake, Arizona.  The funeral service will begin promptly at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, December 19, 2020, at the Main Street Chapel.  For friends and ward members attending the funeral, seating will be available in the Cultural Hall where chairs will be set 6 feet apart in adherence to the CDC, State and Church recommendations.  Masks are strongly suggested.  The concluding service and interment will immediately follow at the R.V. "Mike" Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake where she will be laid to rest alongside her Eternal Companion, Blaine.
