Vergeline Miller

Vergeline Miller, 98 years old, of Mesa, AZ was called home peacefully, to our Heavenly Father, Saturday, March 9th, 2024. Vergeline was born in Elwell, Michigan on August 1st, 1925; daughter of Charles H. and Cleo Sanders.

 She spent her formative years in Gaylord, MI and was the first in her family to graduate high school in 1943. Vergeline's first job during high school was at Golden Rule Grocery in Gaylord along with being a fire watcher, climbing the stairs at Hayes Tower Road fire tower, during the summer. She moved to Alma, working at Consumer Power prior to her marriage to Walter Miller on May 5, 1946. Together they raised their three children and built a life in Gaylord. They moved to AZ in 1986 and there celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006. Vergeline loved people and made friends easily. She was the friendly face at the Pendleton Shop in Gaylord, the Credit Bureau of Gaylord and was the Otsego Lake Township treasurer for over 20 years. She enjoyed being a homemaker, bake goods being her specialty. Her hobbies included; traveling, fishing, knitting, crocheting, playing games especially cards; cribbage, king gin and hand, foot & toe. She touched countless lives with her kindness, generous spirit and infectious smile. Her most precious role was that of a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy, of Show Low, AZ; two sons: Dennis (Marsha) of Mesa, AZ and Lonnie also from Mesa, AZ; 17 grandchildren: Christa (Erick), Curtis (Jessica), Ryan (Cassie), Cory (Claire), Melissa (Kenny), Austin (Taylor), Dylan (Jadelynn), Britney (Keaton), and Courtney; 17 great grandchildren: Kyle (Jenna), Ethan, Ian (Shaydee), Cora, Maddie, Hailey, Hallie, Noah, Brennan, Coustin, Rylee, Brynlee, Calyn, Rowyn and Lennox (coming soon); 1 great-great-grandson, Ashton; Vergeline's sister, Marjorie (Sanders) Hill of Laughlin, NV; and brother, Redford (Marjorie) of Gaylord, MI; sisters in law, Mary Sanders of Gaylord and Sally Sanders of Texas and Thelma Miller of St. Johns, MI.

 Preceding her to Heaven: beloved husband, Walter; her parents, Charles and Cleo Sanders; sisters, Arlene and Ruth; brothers: Byron, Gordon, Lewis, Stanley, Virgil, Delmar, and Tommy.

Your beautiful memory will continue to inspire us all to live life with courage, compassion, and unquenchable thirst for adventure. Your legacy of love, kindness, unwavering optimism and sense of humor will never be forgotten. You are dearly missed, but your presence will be felt in our hearts forever.

Celebration of Life services will be held on April 6th, 2024 at Viewpoint in Mesa, AZ and July 14th 2024 in Gaylord, MI.
