Veda Jo Rogers

Veda has a change of address.  Formerly off Houston Ave in  Gilbert AZ  she has now taken up residence with her parents, Joseph E. Rogers and Gertrude Hatch Rogers, her sister Madalynn Rogers, plus a host of other phenomenal relatives that passed on before her.  Who has no intention of moving any time soon is her sister Trudy Rogers Licano of Mesa.  Her son Kameron Lavar Flake is for the moment living at the Houston residence with his new mom and guardian-on-earth, Vickilyn VanSickle.  Vickilyn fell head over heels for Kameron as a Down Syndrome soul and comedian over 30 years ago.  Bittersweet Vickilyn said goodbye to her dear friend Veda and embraced Kam as her new forever “Love you, Vicki” machine at 4:02 PM Friday, February 1.  Marcy Olsen, one of Veda’s most amazing friends, was there to say goodbye just like she had been there so many times before to say hello. Marcy was always there with something green and healthy for Veda.  Gertrude has that job now.  

Veda Jo came into this world at medical clinic in Snowflake, Arizona. She was given a middle name to match her dad’s and became ultimately 1 of 5 redheads in one family. Her father proclaimed the other 4 made his own red hair fall out. 

Veda grew up in small town Taylor until moving to the big city of Mesa and then to Gilbert.   Along the way she decorated homes and hearts.   A very talented designer she endlessly created beauty for the eye and built a few wonderful homes including the Houston abode.   She married her high school sweetheart Lance Flake and then unmarried him nearly 20 years later.  Like a country western song, she never quite got over getting over, however she retained one of the best title’s ever, “Kameron’s mom”.  She also held the title of “Friend” to a boundless amount of people who became close companions, comrades and confidants.  Several went on to be her guardians and nurse for the past 2.5 years.  For this caregiving and love shown to her, her family here and at the new address are extremely grateful. 

Veda’s Celebration of Life will be attended by close Friends and Family at her almost-Heaven-home.
