Our beloved and only son, Norris A. Baldwin, Jr. "Sonny", suffered a tragic Para-motor flying accident in the early morning hours on June 26, 2018, in the desert just south of Gilbert, Arizona. Just two weeks earlier he returned home to Gilbert from Taylor, where he had displayed his flying skills to his family and friends.
Our son was born in Mesa, AZ, the fifth child and only boy, to Norris and Fawnette Baldwin on December 15, 1972. He grew up know as "Sonny" because he is his father's namesake. The family moved to Taylor when he was two years old, where he lived until leaving for college and then his two-year mission. On the way home from his mission he was asked, "What do you plan to do now?" His immediate answer was "Become a Medical Doctor." When asked how he would pay for medical school he responded, "Join the Army." After receiving his medical degree he gave back four years to the army where he earned the rank of Major. This included two tours of duty overseas.
While visiting his sister's family in Alamogordo, New Mexico, he met and later married a beautiful young lady, Ruthann Rasband. Sonny and Ruthann have five boys, two girls, a son-in-law and one little granddaughter.
He became an emergency medicine doctor and loved his work. He also loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and faithfully tried to follow his teachings and perform his assigned duties. He had served as a bishop in his ward in New Mexico.
A funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7361 S. Constellation Way, in Gilbert, AZ on Saturday, June 30, at 11:00 am, with a viewing from 9:00-10:45.
Interment will be in the Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor, AZ on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 12:00 noon.
