Robert Edward Pena

Robert (Bob) Edward Pena was born August 8, 1934 in Williams, AZ and died at home in Show Low on February 25, 2019. He was the 2nd of 5 children born to Martha and Louis Pena.

During his school days he enjoyed playing baseball, football and continued a lifelong interest in all sports; especially ASU track, football and basketball. He served in the Air Force for 4 years and upon his return to AZ, began school at ASU. He met Loretta at ASU and they were married in 1963. In the same year they moved to Whiteriver, where he taught and coached different sports over the years. Bob loved coaching basketball for the Alchesay Falcons and so appreciated the community support he and the teams received.

Bob enjoyed fishing, sports of all kinds, bird watching, reading mysteries, gardening, running (in his earlier years) and hiking. He loved the outdoors and spending time with Audubon friends on many outings to various locations. Spending time with family and friends was always enjoyable and important to him. During retirement, he did trail building and maintenance with TRACKS on the White Mountain Trail System and worked at the White Mountain Community Garden in Show Low.

We wish to thank all the wonderful caregivers who helped the family care for Bob in the last 2 years. We thank the VA, Home Based Primary Care Team and Compassus Hospice for the nurses and care provided to Bob. They are all very much appreciated.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Loretta; daughter, Sara (Ron); son, Pat; grandchildren, Miah, Mateo, Brayden, Daniel and Ryan; brothers, Richard (Annie), Gerald (LaVonne); and sister-in law Norma, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance Service will be held on March 30, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Unity Church, 257 N. Woodland Rd. in Lakeside.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bob's name be made to TRACKS at 958 S. Woodland Rd. in Lakeside, AZ 85929.
