Robert Joseph Bromley passed from this life to the next on Tuesday morning, March 6, 2018. He was born in Milford, CT on November 1, 1945. After growing up in the New England area, he joined the Navy and served in Vietnam on several aircraft carriers including the Midway. After his Navy service he stayed in the San Diego area and became interested in art. He attended San Diego State University and graduated in 1975 with a Bachelor’s in Fine Art. He specialized in Intaglio printing, even welding his own press, and some of his prints hung in his home for many years. He moved to Arizona in the late 1970’s to attend graduate school at Arizona State University, but when money ran out he took a job with a concrete contractor. Like many young men of that generation, he spent some years sowing some wild oats, but came back to his childhood faith around 1980. He met his wife, Anita, at a Bible study at a church in Tempe, AZ and, after dating, they were married in the Superstition Mountains on April 11, 1981 and began building a life together. They served in several churches they attended and Rob was asked to be a deacon in their church in Mesa. He also was instrumental in establishing Celebrate Recovery groups in both Mesa and Show Low. A big concern for Rob when he wanted to marry Anita was how he’d ever manage to earn enough to support her and her 3 children. It became a bigger concern when he fractured a vertebrae on the job. However God used that injury to move him into the contractor’s office to estimate jobs- a steadier position that paid more. From there his skills grew and he advanced in various companies until, in 1993, he became a general contractor and started his own company, RJ Bromley Construction. He built many beautiful and award winning homes and commercial projects including the Desert Botanical Garden’s cactus and succulent galleries and their new entrance. Rob loved the outdoors, especially the White Mountains and his dream was to build a custom home for himself and Anita. In 2008 they were able to purchase property in Show Low and build a home. Rob continued to oversee the building even after he had surgery and radiation for throat cancer. He and Anita relocated to Show Low in December of 2010 and enjoyed over 7 years of wildlife passing by their windows and smelling the mountain air. Rob is survived by his wife, Anita and his children and step children: Phil Turner, Chris Turner, Brook Turner Welch, Jeremy Bromley and Tessa Bromley-Mazerall. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 15th, at Heart of Mesa (1st Southern Baptist Church) 851 N Stapley Drive, Mesa, AZ.
