Richard Voorhies

December 16, 1951 — March 22, 2025

Richard Dale Voorhies was received by our Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Rick was born in Kansas City Missouri on December 16, 1951 to Geneva and Dwain Voorhies. He married Annie Grissom in Indiana and celebrated the birth of two sons, Anthony (Tony) and Richard (Craig) Voorhies. He later married Vicki Saunders and enjoyed being a step father to daughters, Tammy and Tina. In 1992 he met Sonya (Kilian) Stone and they were married on May 29, 1994 in Mesa Arizona. Together they shared the celebration of the birth of their beautiful daughter, Rachel Ann.

Rick's occupations of choice were truck driving and 20 years of co-managing Verbraken Paint Supply/Mountain Paint Center with his wife, Sonya, in Show Low Arizona. He truly enjoyed woodworking and his greatest joy was music. He was a very talented guitar player with an amazing voice. He had his own band while living in Indiana and had great fun with brother Tim and sister-in-law Rosita recording in Tim's studio. He co-owned a Karaoke company with his sister Deborah and her husband in Raytown Missouri. He truly loved playing music with his family and friends. He brought so much joy to so many people that had the opportunity to hear him play and sing.

Rick was a loving son, brother, uncle, stepdad and father. His wife, Sonya, and daughter, Rachel were the loves of his life and he was so proud of his son-in-law, Nathan Quintana. He adored his grandpuppy, Gas, and his ornery nature brought many smiles to those around him. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Following an eight year battle with Alzheimer's disease, Rick went to heaven to sing and delight those who had passed before him. Rick was preceded in death by his loving mother, Geneva Voorhies, his father, Dwain(Lee) Voorhies, brother-in-law Jim Young and step daughter, Tammy Inman. Survivors include wife, Sonya Voorhies, and daughter, Rachel Quintana, husband Nathaniel Quintana of Show Low Arizona, two sons; Tony and Craig Voorhies of Bedford Indiana; sister, Deborah Voorhies of Peculiar Missouri, and brother, Tim Voorhies, wife Rosita of Mitchell Indiana; step daughter Tina of Indiana. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
