Reginald Carl Riesop

Reginald Carl Riesop, “Reg”, went home to be with Jesus on September 26, surrounded by family quoting scripture and singing hymns. 
Reg was born in Columbus, Wisconsin to Lawrence Charles Riesop and Marvel Lou (Haesler) Riesop. He was baptized in Waterloo, Wisconsin at the home of his grandmother, Esther Riesop and was confirmed into the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod in 1964. He attended St. Johns School in Waterloo and graduated from High School in 1968. 
He was called to be a teacher at East Fork Lutheran School following his education at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN (1968- 1972), where he met his wife Maura (Hartzell). Reg and Maura were married July 19, 1975 and had four boys: Shawn (Kasey, Corey, Lauren & Callen); Justin (Crystal, Mackayla & Morgan); Brent; and Ryan (Maggie, Avery & Emma). 
Reg spent his entire career teaching on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation with most of the time being spent at East Fork Lutheran High School.  In addition to teaching, he spent several years coaching various sports (mainly basketball) and providing mentorship to many of his students. His leadership in the classroom and on the basketball court is indicative of the love he had for the Apache people. 
 Following his retirement from teaching in 2020, Reg enjoyed spending time with his family, taking walks with his wife and watching his favorite sports teams. 
 His father Lawrence was waiting to welcome him in heaven (2006). Reg is survived by his wife, sons, grandchildren, mother, siblings, many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law. 
Reg’s family is comforted with the confidence that he is in heaven rejoicing with his Lord Jesus and is extremely grateful for the outpouring of love from so many of those whose lives were touched by him. There was never a question in his unwavering faith. He was an incredible Christian example for many people and will be very missed.

There will be a memorial service at East Fork Lutheran School gymnasium at 2 pm on Tuesday October 3, 2023.
