On a cool, brisk, blue sky mountain morning, Patricia “Patty” Louise (Hayes) Williams departed this life to receive her eternal reward in heaven on December 29, 2020.
She was a very loving wife and devoted mother of five children. Patty was born on a warm sunny day on June 22, 1927 in McNary, Arizona to Wayne and Irene (Hatch) Hayes. She was an only child but filled the lives of her parents and those who knew her with endless joy.
Patty received her formal education in the McNary School District. She married Howard Frankie Williams of Dulce, N.M. during his six day leave from the Navy in California on December 27, 1945. They honeymooned up the coast, sleeping under the night sky behind roadside billboard signs to save money. Patty went back to McNary and Howard retuned to the Naval base until he was honorably discharged in 1946. They remained in McNary until about 1949 when Howard and Patty’s dad, Wayne, had finished building what would become their forever family home in Lakeside. Patty worked for Southwest Industries, doing clerical work in McNary, AZ. She also worked as a receptionist for Dr. James Allison, Dr. Stephen Betts and Dr. Chris McBride over the years. She dedicated her life to supporting their family business, Williams Service Station, where she would run errands, pick up and drop off parts, cars and customers. When it came to their five kids, Patty was the first to raise her hand to take them anywhere they needed to go. Granny would often say “Patty never asked where they were going, she’d just say ‘wait a minute, let me grab my purse’ and off she went.”
Their home was always open to friends who were welcomed as family. Patty was a lifelong member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many positions and duties over the years. She was an avid reader, and was one of the Lakeside Library’s most frequent visitors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Irene (Hatch) Hayes; her husband, Howard Frankie Williams and her son, Howard “Howie’ Wayne Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sandra Irene (Merv) Baker of Lakeside, AZ; daughter, Frankie Ann (Dr. James) Allison of Lakeside, AZ; daughter, Barbara Lynn (Mike) Schield of Laguna Woods, CA; daughter-in-law, MaryAnne Williams of Lakeside, AZ; and son, Gary Lew (Diane) Williams of Pinetop, AZ; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to the Missionary Fund c/o Lakeside Ward, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, PO Box 2202, Lakeside, Arizona 85929.
