Melvin Ferral Melton, 78, passed away on May 28, 2023, at his home. He was born February 12, 1945, in Marion, Indiana to Shelby and Estaleene Melton.
Melvin grew up in Indiana where he learned the importance of hard work and dedication and began teaching himself various trades. He moved to Arizona in 1980, working as a travelling welder all over the US. In 2008 he made the decision to start his own company; Melvin Melton Services Inc. (MMSI). With Melvin's talent, dedication, work ethic and passion for quality, his business thrived. At the young age of 70 he decided to "retire" and sold his company. Not surprisingly, Melvin never knew how to sit still and continued to create and find projects, keeping himself plenty busy.
Melvin met Susan in 1989 through mutual friends. They bought their first house together in 1995; a "cardboard and scotch tape house" as he would put it. They were united in marriage on January 22, 2005, and together they worked hard to build their dream home. It was completed in the summer of 2014.
Melvin enjoyed collecting motorcycles, old cars, tractors, and trinkets. He built his pride and joy, a 1934 Ford Bonnie and Clyde sedan. It made it into several magazines and even the Sema Car Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. He enjoyed traveling, NASCAR, hockey, chess, reading and mostly spending time with his family and friends. Melvin was a man of integrity and class. He was always there to listen and give gentle guidance, but also had no problem telling you exactly what you needed to hear. To many he was a teacher, leader, and role model.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Estaleene, sister Marcia, brother Max and grandson Mason.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife Susan, daughter Kamie Melton, son Shawn (Shanna) Melton, daughter Dawn (Butch) Bolinger, daughter Kolesa Peterson, son Kulley (Jen) Morrison, daughter Keagan Morrison, and his grandchildren Hunter, Reagan, Seth, Shelby, Meghan, Skylynn, Stormie, Tommie Sue, Kazzi, Kylee, Tyler, Charlie, and great-grandchildren Cohen, Theodore, James, Kingsley, Kinsley and his large extended family and friends he loved dearly. He was loved and respected by so many.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family request no flowers or donations at this time.
