Maria Rosela Chavez, lovingly known as "Rosie," passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2025, at the age of 82, in her home surrounded by family.
Born on December 8, 1942, in Mangas, New Mexico, Rosie dedicated her life to service, love, and faith. She worked for 42 years at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf, where she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues with her kindness and dedication. Beyond her career, she was deeply involved with St. Vincent de Paul in Pinetop, Arizona, always giving her time and energy to help those in need.
Rosie's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her son, Charles Chavez, and her daughter, Carolann Tortice, as well as her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred Chavez, and her daughter, Elizabeth Harrison.
Rosie's legacy of generosity, faith, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A memorial Mass will be held in Rosie's honor on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church at 10am.
