Margaret Virginia McCorkle McDougall, 85, of Gilbert and Pinetop AZ, passed peacefully on November 19, 2020, after a battle with Dementia. Born in New Orleans, LA on November 7th, 1935, in the heart of Cajun country and raised in Crowley, LA. Margaret excelled in sports including swimming, toe dancing, basketball and cheerleading. She attended Crowley High, graduated as valedictorian class of 54. Margaret was a proud LSU tiger fan and graduated in the top 10 percent, Business and Finance, class of 58.
Margaret married David McDougall on June 29th, 1959. Margaret had her own accounting business for 42 years. She was in the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority at LSU, member of P.E.O Chapter A.J, the Baton Rouge Art League, Caledonian Society and in the Presbyterian women’s group.
She had a passion for painting beautiful floral and landscape scenes. She loved swimming and her entire life swam all year round until diagnosed with Dementia. She would always say her Father Malcom McCorkle taught her how to swim in the bayous of Crowley and taught her how to target shoot with a rifle.
She was a beautiful Southern lady who enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Margaret had the best polished silver serving pieces, exquisite china and tabletop décor. Margaret was known for her Almond Pound Cake. This recipe was passed to her from her mother Nellie McCorkle who was an amazing home baker. Margaret was very charitable and was involved in numerous fund-raising projects throughout the years. Margaret always had a twinkle in her eye, a beautiful smile and enjoyed laughing and including humor in her stories.
Margaret and David raised two children, Johnny and Cathy McDougall. Margaret is survived by her best friend and husband of 62 years, David McDougall, daughter Cathy McDougall Shiroda, grandson Ian Joshua McDougall and grandson Evan David McDougall.
Margaret was proceeded in death by her parents Malcom and Nellie McCorkle (Margaret was their only child and was adopted), her in-laws David and Mary McDougall, her son Johnny McDougall and son-in-law David Shiroda.
With respect to the health and welfare of our communities, the family will announce a memorial service and celebration of life at a later date. The family wishes to thank the wonderful team at Compassus Hospice for their compassion and support. In lieu of flowers please send a donation in her name to Community Presbyterian Church, 1940 S.
