Lester Roy Mobley

Lester Roy Mobley “Shorty” of Woodruff, Arizona peacefully passed away on April 7, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was 97. Lester was born on June 1, 1921 in Safford, Arizona to the late James Madison and Mary Eliza (Jordan) Mobley.

A World War II veteran of the United States Army, Lester proudly served his country before being honorably discharged. He married the love of his life, Lucille Dalton, on December 26, 1946 in Globe, Arizona and they enjoyed 71 years of marriage.

He worked for the Railroad in Winslow, Arizona as a mechanic for many years. He also was a body and fender man in Winslow for over 20 years. There wasn’t anything that was broken that he couldn’t fix. He especially enjoyed working on his tractor.

Shorty was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the temple and he felt the most comfort while doing his temple work. Those who knew him knew he loved them and consequently they loved him back. His family and temple were the loves of his life. He had a way of always making you feel important. Shorty touched many hearts and is still touching them after his passing. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him most.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucille of Woodruff; his children, Jim and Suzy Mobley of Holbrook, Arizona, Richard D. and Darlynn Mobley of Woodruff, Mary Lynn Mobley of Winslow, Arizona; grandchildren, Melanie Turner, Leslie McCarty, Aleesha Mobley, Richard R. Mobley, Tareesa Whiting, Christie Christiansen and Sheri Lofgreen; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild on the way.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, John Madison Mobley.

A viewing will be held 9:00 A.M. Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Woodruff Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be held in the Woodruff Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with full Military Honors.
