Katharine Ellen Deitering, 74, of Show Low, Arizona, passed away on February 17, 2025. She was born on June 30, 1950, in Peoria, Illinois, to Don and Mary Rich, whose love and guidance helped shape the incredible woman she became.
Katharine dedicated her career to uplifting others, working at the University of Arizona to support international and Indigenous students through the International Student Center. She had a heart for service, always striving to make the world a better place for those around her.
A lifelong lover of the arts, Katharine found joy in the theater and singing, sharing her passion with all who knew her. She had an unwaveringly positive outlook on life, always choosing to see the good in every person and situation. For her, the glass was never just half full-it was overflowing with hope, kindness, and love. More than anything, she cherished her family, and her grandchildren were the light of her life.
She is survived by her son, Chad Deitering (Alexandra), and her beloved grandchildren, James, Luke, and Bo Deitering. She also leaves behind her sister, Sue Smith (Dennis), and her brother, Mark Rich (Susan), as well as many dear friends and extended family members.
A memorial service to celebrate Katharine's life will be held on March 15, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 300 N 11th St, Show Low, AZ 85901, at 10:30 AM.
Katharine's life was a testament to faith, love, and joy. She had a deep appreciation for The Wizard of Oz, often drawing wisdom from its timeless message of courage, friendship, and home. The Footprints in the Sand prayer was also a source of strength and comfort to her, reflecting her steadfast belief that we are never truly alone.
Her kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith will be dearly missed but forever carried in the hearts of those who loved her.
