Karl Winther passed away on July 4, 2018, after a brief and brave battle with cancer. He was born on October 15, 1936, at Mineola, New York. He later moved to Brownstoner Queens, NY, where he lived for half of his adult life. He was 81.
Karl was known as “the clock man” locally, and people from the White Mountains brought Karl their time pieces for repair. He learned his trade at the Bulova Company, N.Y., where he taught watch making and repair for many years.
He married his first wife, Louise, in New York and they had two sons, Peter and David. He moved his family to show Low, AZ, in 1976. Louise passed away in 2002. Karl was a Roman Catholic most of his life and he and his family attended St. Rita’s Church in Show Low. Then, he started attending the New Life Community Church of the Nazarene, where he stayed for 15 years. He was actively involved in their food distribution program.
Karl had a creative nature and he designed and built their house in Linden, which in many ways resembles a watch. He was also actively involved with the local Republican Party, serving at polling booths during elections.
He married Caroline Zimmerman on March 9, 2014. They held the marriage service in their home, and Pastor Steve Hair, Maranatha Bible Church, officiated. Caroline rejoices in the four good years that they had together.
A service will be held in Karl’s memory at New Hope Christian Fellowship in Linden, on Saturday, July 21, at 1:30 pm.
Karl will be missed. He leaves behind his wife, Caroline, and his two sons, Peter and David, and many friends.
Memorial contributions in his name may be given to the Navajo County Republican Party, New Hope Christian Fellowship, and Church of the Nazarene or any local charity of your choice.
