Jean Eggert

July 11, 1937 — May 6, 2023

Wilma “Jean” Eggert was born on July 11, 1937, in Phoenix, AZ, to Howard Ramey and Margaret Koenig. In 1956, she met her match, Harry Eggert, and married him on March 23rd. Jean and Harry shared almost 50 adventure-filled years of marriage. They traveled throughout the state of Arizona following Harry’s jobs and embracing opportunities to learn new hobbies and make new friends.

Jean’s favorite adventure encompassed the years they lived at the bottom of the Grand Canyon where she and Harry were “Creek Watchers” for the National Park Service. It was their job to monitor the water level at the pump house station, which pumped water up the Grand Canyon to the village above. This job necessitated mule rides up and down the Canyon on a regular basis, allowing Jean to enjoy two of her favorite things, being outdoors and being around animals. Life in the Grand Canyon, of course, was filled with the unexpected, which Jean embraced at every turn. She thrived on the challenges presented there.

When the family moved to Page, AZ, at the edge of Lake Powell, Jean jumped into the new adventures found there. She was soon elected Commodore of the Lake Powell Yacht Club. Summers provided opportunities for extended family to visit for water-skiing and overnights on the family houseboat.

Throughout Jean’s life, she was an enthusiastic volunteer at hospitals and in her churches. She completed over 500 volunteer hours at the hospital in Page, and more recently she volunteered at Summit Regional Medical Center in Show Low.

Jean was also dedicated to her church, putting in many volunteer hours at Our Lady of the Snow Catholic Church in Snowflake, where she was familiar face at many church events. Jean’s faith, love of family, love of animals, and outgoing personality made her a favorite no matter where she went. While she will be missed terribly by her family and friends, she is now united with Harry, and they are resting together in Christ’s love.
