Helen Jones Shepherd, MA, age 92, passed away on March 21, 2024 in Show Low, AZ of complications from cancer. She died in peace.
Helen was born in Brooklyn, NY to George Cerny and Madeline Krivacy. She had two children, Thomas S Jones, Jr of Fallon, NV & Hilary S Jones Rojo of Taylor, AZ. She was married to Thomas S Jones, Sr, deceased. Her biological grandchildren include Toby W Houchens, Dustin T Houchens, Autumn D Simpson, Heidi Helen Houchens, Jonathan P Jones, Madison Jones-Clippard.
Her step grandchildren include: Eric & Nathan Bouvet
Her (27) great grandkids include: Isabel, Ethan, Brooklyn, Aubrey, Lexis, Kaylyn, Makenzie, Drew, Brayden, Wyatt, Logan, Bradley, Athena, Addison, Kendall, Ariella, Toby Jr, Dylan, Blaise, Zoe, Kaia, Tristian, Preston, Jaxton, Jackson, Parker, Spencer.
Her (2) great, great grandkids kids include: Zachary, Brooklyn's (being formed).
Helen was a retired English & Literature college professor, author, avid Scrabble & tennis player. She and her daughter, Hilary, have traveled to the seven continents. She always looked forward to visiting with her son. She loved reading, leading TOPS classes at the Senior Center and her favorite author was William Shakespeare. She moved to the White Mountains from Menifee, California after her stroke in 2019 to live with her daughter & her husband. She loved her son in law, Mac Rojo, and daughter in law Wendy L Jones for their support and unique perspectives. Helen enjoyed attending concerts in her electric wheelchair given by the White Mtn Symphony, NPC Performing Arts & Show Low High School.
She is preceded in death by her eldest brother, John L Cerny, and sister, Mary E Blount. George J. Cerny, the youngest, is still living in California.
Her Mini Aussie Joey will miss her tremendously.
Public Viewing/Rosary will be held Sunday, 7th of April, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Snowflake, AZ. Theresa Dick will be playing the violin.
Latin Funeral Mass for Helen will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Snowflake AZ. Immediately following, a procession to St. John's Catholic Cemetery, St Johns AZ for graveside services, with Fr Jo Blonski officiating.
Reception with food and music to follow at Our Lady of the Snow Catholic Church at 4:30 pm for a celebration of a Catholic life well lived. Please RSVP Hilary 951 660-3042.
