Gloria "Susie" Lewis, our sweet mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and wife to Don Leon Lewis, passed away peacefully at 3:00 p.m. on January 16, 2022 and was 83 years old.
Susie was born to Lloyd and Iola Johnson in McNary Arizona on October 17, 1939. She grew up in a very patriotic and service-oriented family. She had 6 siblings: Jackie, Pokey, Claudette, Doc, Larry and Teddy. She loved being the 4th daughter. Susie also loved growing up in McNary and loved music and dancing. She was a Pom Pom Girl and enjoyed all kinds of social activities. Her family loved the outdoors, the beautiful mountains and streams and lakes all around. McNary was a very vibrant and happy place to grow up. Susie was a good athlete and loved to play fast pitch softball. She loved history and was proud of her LDS Heritage and worked on genealogy most of her life.
Don and Susie met at a Sadie Hawkins dance in McNary. Susie said that when she saw Donnie, and he was so good looking, that she just had to go ask him to dance. And their love took off from there. Susie had 3 children. She was a Sunday School teacher, she loved her Visiting Teaching callings and loved to serve. She was a very good writer and often sent opinion pieces to the papers. She enjoyed going to yard and estate sales. She collected Antiques and even opened a store in Taylor. Susie was a very loyal friend and loved to dress well and go to lunch with her friends. She loved time spent with her family; fishing, reunions, looking for arrowheads, playing cards and games. Susie had a great sense of humor and love to laugh. She loved to pull pranks and tell jokes. She enjoyed baking and reading and loved word games. Susie went back to school in her 30’s to become a Cosmetologist but was allergic to the chemicals and had to stop. She received an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice and worked for the County in the Probation Department.
Susie is survived by her husband, Donnie, of Snowflake; children, Rick (Kelly) of Gilbert, Leslie (Rob) of St. Johns, Stephanie of Snowflake; 12 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and two remaining siblings Ted and Larry. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Jackie, Pokey, Claudette and Doc.
Susie spent the last several years in a Care Facility and our father visited her every day that he could. He
loves her so.
