Gina Reane Windham

April 23, 1962 — May 1, 2021

Gina Reane Windham (AKA: Hurricane Gina) passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. Gina was born on April 23, 1962, in Springerville, Arizona to her parents, Mont John and the late Winifred Gertrude (Kive) Carlson.

It’s difficult to summarize a whole life in a few sentences. Especially this one. She loved to fish and be outdoors. She spent every summer planting a giant garden. But more than anything she loved her people.

She was always feeding someone. She was always babysitting the grandkids. And she always had a beer in her hand. She wasn’t the sweet old grandmother knitting on the couch. She was real, she was raw, and she lived life the way she wanted to. There wasn’t a soul alive that could ever tell her what to do.

Even on her final day, when the doctor said, "it would likely be hours before she would pass," she decided no one was going to tell her when she could go, and she up and left a few minutes later. The day before, she had said “I can go home tomorrow.” I think it’s safe to assume she had some things worked out with God.

She was truly one of a kind and will be missed by so many. She was an angel on earth for 59 years. And now she gets to be a real angel. Until we meet again, show the other angels how to dress “Gina Style” and don’t worry about us. Your strength and your kindness lives on in each one of us.
