Florence Aileen Schaber

March 12, 1937 — May 17, 2019

Florence Aileen McWethy Glass Schaber died late in the evening of Friday, May 17, 2019, at Mountain Care Assisted Living of Snowflake in Snowflake, Arizona from causes incident to her age.  She was 82 years old.  Florence was born on a Friday, March 12, 1937, in Lelia Lake, Donley County, Texas to her parents, the late Amos Theodore and Elsie Maeola (Pope) McWethy.

Florence married Donald Lee Glass on December 1, 1955, in Yerington, Nevada and became a loving and devoted Navy wife.  She was committed to that special calling and moved to the islands of Kwajalein and Guam, where her husband honorably served in the U.S. Navy.  Their military service continued when the family moved to Stockton, California where they lived for several years before moving to Apache Junction, Arizona.  In 1986, Florence and Donald moved to Overgaard, Arizona.  Throughout her life Florence was extremely close to her McWethy family relatives and enjoyed spending as much time with them as she possibly could.  Visits with them were always memorable.    After Florence and Donald were married their family loved to gather with the extended Glass family and share in many amazing and memorable family gatherings and reunions.  Florence cared for everyone in her large family and they all had a special place in their hearts for her.  In helping her husband support her family, Florence took in others' laundry and ironing, waitressed at a few restaurants and eventually began working as a realtor for Wendell Clark in Apache Junction and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Later, after they moved to the Heber/Overgaard area she continued working for Wendell Clark and was joined by her husband, Donald, in the office.  They enjoyed the time that they were able to work together in real estate. In 1991, Florence's world changed dramatically when, Donald, her husband of nearly 36 years died.  A few years later, Florence found love again and married Gene Boyd Schaber on February 10, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He filled a void in her heart that she thought could never be filled again.  They were happy together for more than 9 years before he died in 2006.

Florence was quite the social butterfly.  Everyone enjoyed being in her company and loved her laughter!  She loved engaging in good conversation with others and no subject was off limits. Over the years, she made blankets and quilts that are now treasured by her family.  She enjoyed sewing for her family, whether it be making new patterns or, mending old ones.  Her family was always well-cared for and never went without.  Florence was born and reared in the Baptist faith and was ever grateful for being taught by goodly parents the ways of God.  As an adult, she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and constantly nourished her testimony of the Savior.  Her family is thankful for the example of goodness that she was to them.  They will miss her gentle smile and warm embrace but, they will always be glad that she was not only their mother and grandmother but, friend as well.

Florence is survived by her son, Donald Eugene Glass of Taylor, Arizona; daughter, Teena Leona (Leo) Parham of Overgaard, Arizona; her honorary daughter, Terri Ungerman; her sister, Barbara Williams of Stockton, California; 8 grandchildren:  Shannon Sherwood, Christopher Glass, Alexandria Henson, Stephanie Bush, Danielle Waite, Dustin Farber, Angela Johnson, Travis Parham; 17 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.  Along with her parents and both husbands, Florence was preceded in death by her 2 brothers:  Leslie Amos McWethy, Carrol Theodore McWethy and by her son, Guy Dean Glass in September of 1993;

There will be graveside services held at the Heber Cemetery at a later date.
