Eldon Hunt “Spud” Stratton passed away peacefully May 24, 2018 at his home surrounded by family.
He was born in Snowflake, Az. June 21, 1921.
He loved Snowflake and lived his entire life there. He served in the army in Europe during World War II and was a prisoner of war. He spent much of his life in the logging and lumber business and later served as the public works director for the town of Snowflake. He loved rodeo and especially team roping and competed in roping until age 85.
He was preceded in death by his dear parents William Raymond Stratton and Millie Hunt Stratton, two wonderful wives, Pearl Freeman Stratton and Anne “Peggy” Dodson Meeks Stratton, two brothers Glen and Enmer Raymond, and one sister Larue Bigler. He is survived by his sister Mabel Ison Jones, daughter Sherry Hancock (George Merlin), son Russell Stratton (Felicia), eight grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, twenty-seven great great grandchildren. He is also survived by three step sons, Tom Meeks (Pat), Kenneth Meeks (Judy), Robert Meeks (Jerry), nine grandchildren, and twenty-five great grandchildren.
The Public Viewing and Friends Calling will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Main Street Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 48 N. Main Street in Snowflake, Arizona. The Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 2, 2018 at the Main Street Chapel, where additional visitation will begin one hour prior. The Concluding Service, with Military Honors and Interment will immediately follow at the R.V. "Mike" Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake, Arizona.
Memorial Contributions, in "Spud's" name, to the White Mountain Hospice Foundation: P.O. Box 1875, Lakeside, Arizona 85929 have been suggested by his family.
