With great pain and sorrow, I need to announce the passing of my beloved Father, Edward John Dwyer Jr. “Bud”. My Father was a full-time resident in Show Low, Arizona and passed at the age of 83. He spent the last couple weeks of his life in Phoenix and after a long hospital stay, passed at Morningstar Arrowhead Assisted Living facility. On the early morning of 9 May 2019 my Dad passed of complications due to congestive Heart Failure.
Bud was born in Frogtown, Pennsylvania during the worst snowstorm in recorded history to Cecelia Songer Dwyer and Edward John Dwyer Sr. on February 8th, 1936. The snow was so bad that Bud’s Aunt Betty Dwyer Doran delivered him at the red brick house. The town Doctor showed up after the birth in a horse drawn sled.
Bud had quite the childhood with his sister Kathryn “Kitty” Dwyer (Deceased) growing up in Pennsylvania on the farm, then moving to Arizona. While growing up in Arizona he spent time in Apache Junction exploring the Superstition Mountains and later moving to Sawmill, Arizona living on the Navajo Reservation. While living in Sawmill, Bud worked summers at the Trading Post where this blonde hair blue eyed Irishman learned to speak fluent Navajo. Which he frequently would practice when at the local casinos in Pinetop, Twin arrows and Payson.
Bud retired from APS as a Communications Engineer after working for 40 plus years and loved it so much that we didn’t think he would retire. Bud started out in the mailroom and later cut his teeth as a field technician installing microwave stations on Porter Mountain as well as every mountain top in Arizona with great pride. I know because we spent many camping trips at these locations.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Carolyn Faye Kirk Dwyer and his second wife Donna Lee Jones Dwyer. He is survived by his sons Thomas Edward (Matti) Dwyer and Michael Sean Dwyer, his stepson Miles Malmos, stepdaughter Rae Dawn (Lance) Hilyard, and his granddaughter Emily.
Services will be at Saint Jerome’s on Wednesday 26th June at 1000 AM located at 10815 N 35th Ave. Phoenix AZ. There will be a get together after the service flyers and maps will be provided at the church.
I would like to thank Banner UMC, Estrella Genesis, Morningstar Arrowhead and especially Hospice Promise for their exceptional care and love they showed my Father while he was with them.
