Dwight Spurgeon Thrasher, 91, of Show Low, Arizona peacefully passed away on June 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on August 28, 1926 in Longmont, Boulder County, Colorado to the late Robert and Ada Mae (Smith) Thrasher.
On June 23, 1944 in Lebanon, Oregon Dwight enlisted into the United States Navy and served during World War II before being Honorably discharged on June 3, 1946. On June 23, 1946 he married the love of his life, Joyce Eileen Burris, in Los Angeles, California. Later on June 11, 1956 their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints just after it opened. They enjoyed 67 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on January 8, 2014.
In May of 2014 Dwight married, Suzanne Potts, after years of knowing each other. She was a wonderful companion and constant supporter of his who remained faithfully by his side until the end.
During his younger years, Dwight was known as the “Dutch Oven” cooking master for his hunting camps. He began working for the Show Low School District in 1960 and continued until May of 1992 when he retired. He was affectionately known as “Whitey” by his family and close friends who will dearly miss him.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Thrasher of Show Low, Arizona; his children, Lawrence Edward “Larry” Thrasher (Jean) of Lakeside, Arizona, Eileen Louise Hackemack (Bart) of LaPalma, California, David Wayne Thrasher (Lisa) of Vernon, Arizona and Michael Dean Thrasher (Cherri) of Show Low, Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Dwight Thrasher on February 25, 2008; a sister, Ella Margurite Thrasher and brothers, Harold Robert Franklin Thrasher, Leo Dale Thrasher and Emmitt John Thrasher.
The viewing and friends calling will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Downtown Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 300 N. 11th Street, Show Low. The funeral service will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Downtown Chapel with an additional viewing to be held 1 hour prior to the services. Interment will follow in the Show Low Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with full Military Honors.
