Donald Ramsey

August 4, 1938 — January 14, 2024

Don Millard Ramsey passed away peacefully on Sunday morning January 14, 2024. His loving wife of 67½ years was by his side.

He was born August 4, 1938 in McNary, Arizona, to Rob and Edna Ramsey. The majority of his youth was spent in Snowflake, Arizona where he attended Snowflake High School. He excelled in athletics, and sang in the Madrigal's choir. He was a proud member of the mighty class of 1956. A Lobo through and through.

Having been born into a logging family, he also spent a great deal of time in the woods atop the Mogollon Rim at the Duke City logging camp with uncles, aunts and cousins. They were all raised as one family, and that unique bond between the Ramseys was a special one. A lifelong love with those woods, and the woods of the White Mountains, accompanied him throughout his life. He liked to hunt, and in his younger years was an avid fisherman. Most of all, it was in these woods while surrounded by his kids and grandkids, that he was happiest and truly in his element.

He married for eternity the love of his life, Judy Rogers, in the Manti, Utah temple, on July 23, 1956. He attended Arizona State University and began a long life of work, culminating in a career in Phoenix as the sales and purchasing agent for Southwest Forest Industries. He eventually worked for their subsidiary company, Apache Railways, in his hometown of Snowflake. After 12 years with SWF/AR he returned to the woods as a heavy equipment private contractor, piled and cleared brush, and reseeded the forest floor. He worked hard and worked many jobs throughout his life, finally retiring for good at the age of 77.

Don was a proud dad of 5 children, 1 girl and 4 boys. He was always kind, loving, and supportive, but firm when needed. He was very judicious with that discipline however, and we always knew that we had a dad who would never judge us and would love us unconditionally.

Don joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of 14. He served in various callings in the church throughout his lifetime including ward and stake clerk, executive secretary, athletic director, Sunday school teacher, and bishop. Dad loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, and the atoning power of The Savior, and was well aware of the necessity and power of that atonement in his own life. He taught his children that gospel through his humble and contrite perseverance, and we loved him greatly for it.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Rob and Edna Ramsey, sister Darlene Wilkinson, and great granddaughter Kenlee Perkes.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Judy Ramsey, sons Rion Ramsey (Karen), Scott Ramsey (Kendra), Eric Ramsey (Julie), Rob Ramsey (Janette), and daughter Becky Ramsey Schreiber. He is the grandfather of 20 and the great-grandfather of 28.
