Dolores grew up in Northern California near the ocean and enjoyed roller skating and playing the trombone. She graduated from Arrayo Grande High School in 1952 and worked multiple jobs for eight years to put herself through college at San Francisco State. Following graduation, she became an elementary school teacher and "resource specialist" in California. She taught school in California for 32 years until the death of her first husband, Walter Blair Mason. After his death, Dolores moved to Utah and taught elementary education for another eight years until her retirement at age 65. As a teacher of students with special learning needs, she worked with each child, one on one, helping them to achieve their potential. She loved her students from all backgrounds, unconditionally, and they loved her.
Dolores married Walter Blair Mason on August 7, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Blair and Dolores adopted two children; Tamara Ann (Mason) Davies and Walter Brent Mason. Dolores is remembered for being a loving and hard working Mother who would do anything she could for her children.
One week after her retirement as a school teacher, she served an LDS humanitarian service mission in Thailand for 18 months helping local Thai teachers how to teach English. She traveled throughout most of the Country and developed many long lasting friendships.
Shortly after returning from Thailand, Dolores was introduced and married her "treasure" James W. Wethington - a crusty old retired Southwest Airlines pilot. Shortly after their marriage, they served an LDS Leadership mission to Lagos, Nigeria where they loved and found ways to serve the Nigerian people.
Dolores loved life and the people in her life knew she loved them. She loved to take long brisk walks. Her perfect day would be a six mile walk and talk to 10 people along the way! At the end of each conversation she would know their life story and they would feel they had a new best friend.
Dolores was a wonderful grandmother who was proud and happy for all her grandchildren's efforts in whatever they chose to do with their life. She showed her love and support by doing whatever it took to be there ... whatever there meant ... whether it was an event at school, church, sports, or music, etc. Dolores has 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Dolores is preceded in death by her late husband, Walter Blair Mason and her 4 siblings: Walton Buriah Wilkins, John Rees Wilkins, Eva Marie (Wilkins) Chaney, and Ruth Ann (Wilkins) Huddleston.
