It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dean Drew Tessay, who departed this life in his hometown of Whiteriver, Arizona, on December 14, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on March 20, 1951, Dean was a proud member of the American Indian community and spent his life contributing to both his family and his surroundings.
Dean's adventurous spirit led him to serve in the United States Marine Corps, where he showcased his musical talent as a member of the Marines Band, playing the trumpet with dedication and passion. After his service, Dean held various jobs throughout his life, embodying the essence of a modern nomad. He worked as a tax preparer and found fulfillment as a construction worker, leaving a profound impact on the projects he contributed to.
In addition to his professional career, Dean was a gifted artist, renowned for his intricate carvings of Kachina statues and the creation of beautiful toys and earrings. His craftsmanship brought joy to many and reflected the rich culture and heritage he cherished.
Funeral services will be held in his honor on December 27, 2024. A public viewing will take place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Fort Apache Branch at 9:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Whiteriver Cemetery, where Dean will be laid to rest.
