David E. Tucker, affectionately known as “Corky”, of Lakeside, Arizona (formerly Chandler) passed away on April 12, 2019 in Show Low, Arizona. He was 80. Corky was born on April 8, 1939 in Mesa, Arizona to the late David E. and Mabel (Lankford) Tucker.
Corky was a United States Army Veteran having served as a Sergeant with the 82nd Airborne as a Paratrooper. He was stationed in Europe, Germany, and Alaska. He also served as ski patrol in Austria. Following his time in Germany, he taught at West Point Military Academy before being honorably discharged.
Corky was a cowboy at heart. Early on, he rode bulls; and later took up team roping and became an excellent team roper. He also played football at Chandler High; and was a star athlete in his younger years. He enjoyed anything outdoors especially hunting and fishing. Corky worked as an insulator, and retired with the Abatement Removers Union Local #73 in Phoenix.
He is survived by his loving companion, Sue Ahlquist and her son Jason of Lakeside; sons, David Clayton Ahlquist (Julie) of Chandler, Arizona and Stewart Tucker of Show Low; daughter, Melissa Covington (Loren) of Lakeside; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Peggy Tucker; son, Grady Tucker and a sister, Debra White.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Owens Livingston Mortuary~White Mountain Chapel, 320 N. 9th Street, Show Low.
In lieu flowers donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital or the Wounded Warriors of Arizona in David’s name.
