Charles Gordon Jones

April 15, 1934 — August 11, 2018

Charles Gordon “Chief” Jones of Show Low, Arizona passed away on August 11, 2018 at the Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low. He was 84. Charles was born on April 15, 1934 in Phoenix, Arizona to the late Charles Daniel Jones and Vilcie Paola Dickson.

Charles was a veteran of the United States Navy having earned the rank of Master Chief before retiring after 27 faithful years of service. The majority of his naval service was on submarines.  He was very proud of his military service and he had a deep love of country. Following his time in the military he worked for the Arizona Department of Transportation for many years.

In 1999 he moved to Show Low and he truly enjoyed his time in the White Mountains. He was a member of the White Mountain Submarine Vets Base in Show Low and participated in their many fundraising charity golf events. He was also a Master Mason and member of the Whiteriver Masonic Lodge#62 in Show Low.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, traveling, golfing and gardening. He will be deeply missed by those whom knew him best.

He is survived by his children: Susan Ross of Peoria, Arizona, Joanne (Rick) Garris of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Karen (Michael) Jackson of Phoenix, Arizona and Scott (Cathy) Jones of Mesa, Arizona; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Jones of Payson, Arizona and sisters, Eva Cropper of Phoenix and Vivian Harper of Payson.

He was preceded in death by his 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Whiteriver Masonic Lodge #62, 741 E. Whipple, Show Low, Arizona. A reception will immediately follow the services. 

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the US Sub Vets White Mountain Base, 1801 W. Deuce of Clubs Ste. 201, Show Low, Arizona 85901.
