Charles L. Bennett, 67, passed away April 29, 2018 in his home in Show Low, AZ. He was born to Ted and Cora Bennett on February 5, 1951 in Salem, OR. He spent the majority of his years in Oregon. He and his wife, Iris, moved to Arizona in 2012, after retiring.
Charlie enjoyed playing sports and spending time with friends. Most of his high school years were attending Central High School in Independence, Oregon. His final few months during his senior year were spent in Lawrence, KS where he received his HS diploma. After graduation he returned to Oregon.
Charlie served honorably in the U S Army from September 1970 - March 1972. After his service in the Army he returned once again to OR where he attended Clackamas Community College, receiving a degree in Vocational Teacher Education. Charlie also attended Linn Benton Community College and received an AS degree in General Studies. He attended classes at Eastern Oregon University in LaGrande, Or, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree.
Charlie was a teacher most of his career. His first teaching position was at Tongue Point Job Corp in Astoria, OR where he taught disadvantaged students and dropouts needing job skills. He taught a variety of Graphic Arts courses and ran a full time printing production facility. He spent 15 years teaching Graphic Design and production at Vocational Village High School in Portland, OR. His years before retiring were spent teaching Graphic Communication classes at Benson High School in Portland, Oregon. He retired in 2006.
Charlie enjoyed the outdoors and country living. He and his wife Iris lived on a small farm near Beavercreek, OR for many years and worked hard to improve the land and provide a positive environment for his son, Charlie. He raised many animals through the years and encouraged his son with 4H projects and FFA participation. Time on the farm was enjoyable in spite of the hard work.
Charlie felt education was very important. He always worked hard and tried to encourage young people. He expected them to work hard, continue their education and choose a profession they loved. Charlie was very generous through the years, giving to organizations that helped veterans and people who were less fortunate. He loved to read and enjoyed travel and connecting with friends and family. He and his wife enjoyed living in Show Low and he often remarked what a blessing to live in a place where there was sunshine most days.
He is survived by his wife, Iris; brothers, Ted & Don; sister, Nancy; and his father, Ted. He had two children from a previous marriage. He was very proud of his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John and his mother, Cora.
Charlie was a devoted husband, a wonderful friend, responsible father, caring son and brother. His faith was strong and he always tried to be a good and kind servant of God. Charlie will be missed and has left a positive and lasting impression with those who knew and loved him.
