Charles Boyd Austin, age 81, of Snowflake, Arizona passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Monday, May 7, 2018. Boyd was born to LD and Georgia Austin on October 14, 1936 in St. Johns, Arizona. He was the oldest of eight children. Boyd is survived by his two brothers Gary Austin and Dan Austin.
Boyd was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he served a mission in the New England States from 1957 to 1959. He held many positions in the church including a member of the bishopric, stake executive secretary and a member of the stake mission presidency. He served his entire life and blessed many lives with his service in the church.
Boyd was a stalwart member of the community, driving bus and teaching school for 33 years at Snowflake Intermediate School. He was loved by his students and all those who were influenced by him. He learned at the tender age of 11 to paint houses from his father and he beautified the White Mountain area with his talent and skill. Boyd loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and wood cutter. He loved spending time with his family and friends doing these things.
Boyd was a loving husband and father who left a legacy of love, hard work and service to others. With his keen sense of humor, he made people laugh and put a smile on the faces of many.
Boyd's family was his greatest blessing. His family includes his loving wife Joy of 54 years and together they had five children: Jennifer and Launy of Gilbert, Arizona; Barry and Melissa of Snowflake, Arizona; Patrick and Jolene of Taylor, Arizona; Jeanna of Snowflake, Arizona; and Kiri and Justin Woodside of Taylor, Arizona. Boyd also has 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents LD and Georgia Austin, his brothers Terry Austin and Norvell Austin. Also, his sisters Nona Ashcroft, Glenna Bigelow and Kim Austin.
There will be a viewing held on Sunday evening, May 13, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Owens Livingston Mortuary-Heritage Chapel, 84 E. 19 So. in Snowflake, Arizona. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Centennial Stake Center, 9th So. 2nd W. in Snowflake, Arizona, with a viewing starting at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at the R.V. Mike Ramsay Cemetery in Snowflake, Arizona.
