Gwendena Lee Gatewood, Chairwoman of the White Mountain Apache Tribe shared the following tribute in Memory of Caroline Alchesay:
“Strength and resolve, she encouraged me and gave the most awesome uplifting words. A relentless force and a steady hand that raised in prayer. We loved her true grit - she had poise and grace. Anyone who knew Caroline was touched by her kindness, humor and source of positivity. Admiration goes to her many years of feeding our school children as a cook. Delicious meals baked with love, she prayed that the food would nourish our kids for them to learn and grow.
At Sunrise Ski Park, Caroline was successful as a maid, and able to work with minimal supervision. Ultimately, being the outstanding maid she was able to multitask as well as demonstrate exceptional cleaning, communication, and time management skills.
The passing of Caroline Alchesay marks the end of the noble service of a courageous and noble woman. She was devoted to her God, church, and family. She was a teacher to many, a disciple of learning as she worked for the school, and spent much of her lengthy life acquiring knowledge to pass to others.
She is truly loved by all who knew her, and words cannot adequately describe our gratitude to her and sorrow at our loss We will miss her voice, her steadiness, her confidence in the Lord, her smile, her wit, her enthusiasm, her optimism, and her stories, truly a remarkable woman.“
Caroline is also survived by her siblings: Ludy (Thomas) Altaha, Adam (Sonya) Burnette, MacArthur (Marilyn) Burnette, & Shirley Burnette.
