Bert Herbert Hinton

Bert Herbert Hinton, Sr. of East Fork, Arizona peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 30, 2018 at his home in East Fork. Bert was born on October 16, 1934 in Cedar Creek, Arizona to the late, Robert and Dorinda (Declay) Hinton.

During his younger years Bert would follow Evangelist Samuel Harris throughout his ministries. It was during this time that he met his wife, Joanna Garland Hinton. He was very traditional in his ways and was well known throughout the Apache Reservations as a Medicine Man. He began in 1959 and participated in Sunrise Dances for the girls until 2017.

During his life Bert worked numerous jobs. He was a truck driver, worked for FATCO as well as building roads in Salt River, Cibecue and Hawley Lake. He was also a part of the construction of Hawley Lake.

He lived many places throughout his life and attended all the churches throughout the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joanna of East Fork; sons, David Hinton of East Fork, Bert Hinton, Jr. (June) of Whiteriver, Arizona, Leo Cruz of East Fork, Keith Hinton (Brachelle) of Bylas, Arizona, and Terrell Hinton, Sr. (Vanessa) of East Fork; daughter, Roanna Daley (Deshone) of Whiteriver; siblings, Ruth Paxson, Beverly Dahkoshay, Minor Paxson, Myra Cosay, Roberta Classay, Van Hinton, Robert Hinton, Jr., Dee Hinton and Thelma Colelay.

He was preceded in death by his son, Nathaniel Hinton, Sr.; daughter, Rayma Declay; grandson, Jonathan Hinton; nephew, Timmy Hinton, Sr. and siblings, Evans Paxson, Virgil Hinton, Alex Hinton, Pauline Miles and Sarah Dehose.

A two night wake will begin 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 7, 2018 at the family home, 3418 E. East Fork Road. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Chief Alchesay Activity Center, Whiteriver. Interment will follow in the Mission View Cemetery in East Fork.
