Bernice Marie Cody-Redbird of Sun Valley, Arizona passed away on December 5, 2021 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was 78. Bernice was born on July 6, 1943 in Canyon Diablo, Arizona into the Tsi’naajinii (Black Streaked Wood/Dark Streaked/Black Horizontal/Black Rock), born for Naakaii Dine’é (Mexican Clan) to her parents, Ben and Sarah (Moffett) Cody.
Bernice had a passion for and was an excellent Native American Bead worker. She was a talented seamstress and made many buckskin outfits and moccasins that she adorned with her intricate beadwork and designs. A loving homemaker, she spent her life taking care of her family members and went above and beyond for her children and grandchildren.
She had a deep love for her Lord and Savior and was a devout Christian throughout her life. Bernice was very fashionable and an active businesswoman working as a data processor for Maricopa County. She enjoyed going to the casino, but mostly taking care of her family.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald Lee Emhee Redbird of the Kiowa Nation of Oklahoma; children, Beatrice Shorty and Violet Redbird-Nez; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Laura, Elsie, LeRoy, Marylou, Evelyn and Vera.
She was preceded in death by her son, Virgil; her parents and her grandparents, Joe and Molly.
A viewing will be held 9:00 A.M. Thursday, December 16, 2021 at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Holbrook, Arizona with the funeral service to follow at 10:00. Interment will follow in the Holbrook Cemetery.
