Benny Ray Goodman, 82, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a great man, beloved to all who knew him. Benny was born January 2nd, 1943 in Miami, Arizona, to John and Lahoma Goodman. He was celebrated by the town as the 'New Years Baby', garnering accolades and gifts for John and Lahoma.
The Goodman family moved to Woodruff, Arizona, around 1945, where he met his future wife, Peggy Ann Gardner. Benny and Peggy were happily married for 60 years and raised 8 children together. Benny worked on the Glen Canyon Dam at age 17, spent many years working for ADOT, owned Holbrook Feed & Seed for a few years, then went to work for APS at the Cholla Power Plant in Joseph City, where he retired in 1999.
Benny loved playing music with his family, gardening, camping, and spending time with his wife and children.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lahoma; brothers, Johnnie, Glen, and Leslie; sister, Eva (Shumway); son, Leslie John; grandsons, Benny Ray Moore and Christopher John Goodman; and great-grandson Nicholas Garland Whitmer.
He is survived by his sister, Betty Hatch and brother, Jerry; children, Alvin, Cindy Goslin (Harry), Nancy Moore (Michael), Tom (Tanya), Conny Lindeman (Richard), Tammy Mobley (Richard), and Patty Clark (Ryan); 26 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Viewing will be held Saturday, February 1st, at the Woodruff Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 10:00 am, followed by funeral services at 11:00am. Burial afterwards at the Woodruff Cemetery in Woodruff, Arizona.
