Alfred "Freddie" Lara has gone on before us on July 2, 2023, in Show Low, Arizona. As they said, "Freddie's big ole heart just gave out." Freddie was born on March 28, 1940, in Los Angeles, California to his father, Joe Lara and his mother, Cecelia Baca.
Freddie relocated from California in 1984 to Show Low, Arizona. On April 26, 1986, he married the love of his life, Diane.
Anyone that knew Fred also knew him as the lawn guy. He loved riding his tractor. He loved his garden, his lawn and, absolutely, his willow tree.
Freddie retired from the Snowflake Papermill in 1996. Fred sure thought a lot of his partners that worked at the mill. Anytime they ran into each other they would hug and say "It sure is good to see you."
Fred had a real love of vintage cars. He owned a French Blue 1939 Packard and was a regular at the car shows. He and his ride took some of the awards too.
Fred's dream of becoming a Shriner was never very far from his thoughts. His desire to become a Shriner began in his youth in Los Angeles, California. Fred had seen the work the Shriners did for the children of his city. So, after having completed his necessary work in The Whiteriver Masonic Lodge, he studied and became a Shriner in 2014 at the El Zariba Shrine in Phoenix, Arizona. Fred said, "It's all about the kids."
Fred's brothers in the Shrine are his true brothers...they not only like each other, they look out for each other...he loves those guys.
The folks that will miss Freddie are: his loving wife of 37 years, Diane. His daughters, Dianna and Josie and his stepson, Josh Payne. Fred is preceded in death by his sons, Dennis and Alfred, Jr. and by his daughter, Martha.
The pride of his life were his granddaughters, Kelly, Angela, Stevie, Summer, Jessica and Jacqueline and his grandsons, Devon, Dillon, and Dennis, Jr. His great-grands and great-great-grands are many and HE WAS SO PROUD OF ALL OF THEM.
A Celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 1001 E. Hunting Street in Show Low, Arizona under the Willow Tree.
