Donna Peterson Rescorla, age 70, passed away on January 17, 2018 in Lakeside, Arizona. She was born in Tucson, Arizona on August 7, 1947 to Don L. and Lucile Eyring Peterson. Donna was raised in Arizona and graduated in 1965 from Holbrook High School. She was the Salutatorian. At the time, she lived in Keams Canyon and rode a school bus to Holbrook each day, a round trip of 145 miles. Donna attended BYU where she met and married Brian Rescorla. After living in both Utah and Arizona, they moved to his hometown of Timmins, Ontario, Canada. While there, Donna began a career as a reporter for the Timmins Daily Press. She eventually became an award winning journalist. Donna was accomplished at all forms of needlework, especially crocheting. She had won many awards for her various projects as well. Nearly 20 years ago Donna returned to Arizona. She resided in Snowflake and subsequently became a reporter for the White Mountain Independent. She was there for several years before declining health brought her to retirement. The last few years Donna became interested in genealogy. She was involved with indexing photocopies of original documents to make them accessible to everyone through the internet. She indexed well over a half million records. Donna was a 4th and 5th generation member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). Donna is survived by her son, Christopher Rescorla, of Provo, Utah; her daughter, Maren Hanson of South Porcupine, Ontario, Canada and Maren’s husband and three children; her brothers, Richard Peterson of Holbrook, AZ & Douglas Peterson of Springville, Utah; and many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Don Larry Peterson, and a son, Matthew. A viewing & visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 10:30am-12:30pm at Owens Livingston Mortuary, Heritage Chapel, 84 E. 19 S., in Snowflake, AZ. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm at the R.V. “Mike” Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake, AZ.
