Charles William Johnson, Jr.

Charles William Johnson, Jr., age 81, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at his home in Pinetop, Navajo County, Arizona, with his wife by his side after a battle with cancer.  Charles, known to many as Chuck, was born on Saturday, January 11, 1936 in Haskell, Texas to Charles William, Sr. and Myrtle Odell (Snodgrass) Johnson.  After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Chuck's family relocated to Pomona, California to help with the war efforts.  Chuck was a man who wanted to help others and his country.  At the early age of 15, he went and helped with fires in Yosemite, California and Maricopa, Arizona.  At 17, Chuck joined the United States Marine Corp to aid our country in its fight during the Korean War.  He was proud to call himself a "Devil Dog".Chuck would say in his own words that he lived a "Long Good Life".  In 1958 he married his best friend and love of his life, Beverly Elaine Bowling. This past year they celebrated their 60th anniversary.  Together they raised to sons, Charles William Johnson, III and Jay Rodney Johnson.  In 1987 Chuck and Bev moved to Pinetop, where they enjoyed life in the beautiful quiet mountain town.Chuck enjoyed playing golf and his guitar.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time and being around his wonderful family and friends and loving on their dog, Abby.Chuck is survived by his beautiful wife, Bev; their children, Charles William, III (Peggy) Johnson, Jay Johnson; grandchildren, Dana (Lindsey), Charles William IV ("Chad"), Andrew, Michael; great-granddaughter and first girl born into his family, Penny, whom he took much pride in; numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him deeply.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Odell Johnson; brother, Don Phillip and sister, Debra Jean.Private family services will be held at a later date.
