Jay W. Lewis of Brooklyn, New York unexpectedly passed away on November 6, 2017 at his home. He was 32. Jay was born in Winslow, Arizona to Jimmie Lewis, Jr. and Elouise (Gishie) Lewis on November 29, 1984. He attended the North Canyon High School in Phoenix, Arizona graduating in 2003. He then attended the Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. There he studied Fashion Design and Merchandising and studied abroad in Florence, Italy and London. While in school he won best collection senior fashion show. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Kent State in August of 2015. Jay was independently pursuing his career in fashion while living in New York. He won a design award for his new interpretation of Cinderella Dress for JC Penny, during their fashion students dream Cinderella gown modern day fairy tale challenge. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed coming back home to visit his many relatives on and around the Navajo Nation. He was full of life and enjoyed music, his favorite band the Dixie Chicks, and watching his favorite T.V. show Roseanne. Jay was a wonderfully talented and loving person who will be dearly missed. He is survived by his mother, Elouise Lewis; father, Jimmie Lewis, Jr.; sister, Bobbi Brown; brothers, Jimbob and K.C. Lewis; nieces, Kaiya and Layla Brown; partner, Robert T. Geertman; grandparents, Jimmie Lewis, Sr. and Nellie Lewis; great-aunts, Frances Nells Begay and Dorothy Denetclaw and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Susan and Harvey Gishie. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Holbrook Pentecostal Church in Holbrook. Interment will follow in the Holbrook Cemetery.
