"The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge…” – 2 Samuel 22:2-3 Ida Manuel, 76, of Carrizo, Arizona, entered into eternal glory early Monday morning, November 6, 2017 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born on August 25, 1941 in Carrizo, the daughter of Marcos & Luise (Perry) Foster. She attended Theodore Roosevelt Boarding School and continued her education at the Alchesay High School. Ida began working for the BIA Forestry in her early years and was a member of the original Apache 6 Women’s Hotshot Crew. She served as a wildland firefighter for over 20 years and later worked in the Warehouse until her retirement. Ida continued to show her love & support for her “Fort Apache Hotshots” family and referred to them as her sons. Ida was devoted to her family and a generous and faithful friend to many. She was a woman of great-faith and loved to share her testimony of God’s love with everyone. Ida was a passionate fan of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. She proudly wore her Cowboys jersey on game days and was often heard cheering loudly in her living room by her neighbors in her community. A one night wake will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 10, 2017 at her residence at 121 C-20 Drive in Carrizo, Arizona. All former and current Fort Apache Hotshot crewmembers, Wild land firefighters and BIA/Tribal Forestry personnel are welcomed to escort her body from the Carrizo cattle guard to her home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at 1:00 PM at the Carrizo Assembly of God Church with Rev. Jerold Altaha officiating. Burial will be at the Family Plot at the Carrizo Creek Crossing. Ida is survived by her daughter Vangie Manuel, her sons Virgil & Jennifer Manuel, Delbert Childs, Chris Childs Jr., Richard & Jerilyn Childs Sr., Dino & Jackie Manuel, Jo Bennette, Grandchildren Eli & Lauren Danford, Adonis & Tenaya Manuel, Diego & Nathania Manuel, Latral Manuel-Massey, Jan Manuel Quincy Manuel, Leshon Bennett, Isaiah Bennett, Elektra Childs, 4 Great-Grandchildren Allen, Elijah, Kylie Danford & Jayceon Manuel, her sister Rosie Foster, her brother Isaac Kasey, & all past & present Fort Apache Hotshots crews. Ida is predeceased by her husband Van Manuel and their daughter Pearl Manuel, her parents Marcos & Louise (Perry) Foster, her Sister Emily Danford, Her brothers Phillip Kasey, Wren Kasey, Jerome Kasey Sr., Robinson Foster Sr. Tribal Chairman, Vice Chairman, Tribal Council and Churches from All denominations are welcomed.
