Freda Veon Lilly

d. October 12, 2017

"Our" dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Freda Veon Lilly, returned to our Father in Heaven on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, where she was received with open arms, at the home of Kurt and Phaon Lilly. She was surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in September 1930, in Lakeside, and grew up in Pinyon with 12 brothers and sisters. She resided in Lakeside for the last nine years. She is survived by her three sons: Rodney (Laura), Kurt (Phaon), Mark (Penny); daughter Joan Ellen (Ken); and two "adopted sons": Marvin Begay and Hugo Hernandez (Jean). Mother was preceded in death by her husband, Max C. Lilly, in 2008; parents Martin and Fanny Penrod; son Kent; daughters Judy Lynn and Janice Dolley; three grandsons; and several of her dear brothers and sisters. "Mom and Dad" were married Jan. 4, 1946, in the  temple and sealed for time and all eternity Feb. 15, 1957, when she was pregnant with twin boys. She was a very strong woman and was dedicated to the church her whole life. She was Relief Society president in Lakeside for many years of her life. The couple moved to Sanders when Max went to work for the state, and became members of the Sanders branch. There they became surrogate parents to many missionaries, members and people who adored them. They were the elderly couple that everyone looked up to and made everyone feel comfortable. They spent their lives in service to each other, and to our Lord and Savior, to their family and to their community. "Our parents gave us a life and childhood like no other. We were loved, cherished and protected. Our parents' whole world revolved around their children. They never left us out of anything. If they were going out to dinner, we all went out. We were a family and we did everything as a family." A visitation will be 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Owens Livingston Mortuary, 320 N. 9th St. in Show Low. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Lakeside Stake Center.
