Doug Polyak

July 30, 1952 — September 15, 2017

On July 30, 1952 in Passaic, NJ, Doug was born, the third child to Paul and Dorothy Polyak. Before too long he was joined by 3 younger siblings and after a few pit stops, the family of 8 made their home in Phoenix, AZ. This is where Doug finished grade school and graduated from South Mountain High. He enlisted in the Army in 1971 and shortly thereafter married and had two children. He also served his country in the National Guard and Army Reserves. Following his military discharge, Doug eventually settled in Show Low, AZ where he spent numerous hours volunteering for Navajo county SAV, Navajo County Search and Rescue, and the Navajo County Sherriff Dept., working Evidence. He was made an Honorary Deputy on September 12, 2017. After a brief illness, Doug went to sleep in Jesus on Friday, September 15, 2017. He is survived by his children; Raylene (Tommy) Carrera, Doug Jr. (Melissa) Polyak; siblings, Pat Desmond, Faye Whritenour, Glenn (Bonni) Polyak, Betsy (Ralph) Gray, and Jackie Polyak (wife of deceased brother, Paul). He also leaves behind grandchildren, Cassandra Polyak, Alexander, Gabriel, and Christopher Carrera, Brandon Iahr, Cheyenne Polyak, Kallie and Joshua Collins. Included in those who loved him dearly are his nieces and nephews, Julie Guillen, JW Desmond, Paul, Kristina, Tanya, and Melinda Polyak, Jennifer, Novak, Kurtis Whritenour, and numerous friends. Local services were held on September 19, 2017 at the Show Low Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona will be at a later date. The family requests that any donations in Doug’s honor be made to Accord Hospice of the White Mountains.
