Peggy Jean Butler

July 20, 1928 — September 9, 2017

Peggy Jean Butler, 89, returned home to her Heavenly Father in the early morning hours of September 9, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 20, 1928 in Burly, Idaho, the 11th of 12 children, to Leroy and Mauretta Eager Pace. Eight of her brothers served in the military during WWII at the same time. Only one was killed. Her brother Ned's P-16 was shot down in China. She was raised in Claysprings and attended grade school in the old two-room school. She attended high school in Snowflake, where she dated and fell in love with Hal Butler. When he returned from overseas, they were married in Show Low at the home of Hal's parents, Julius Ray and Dicy May Butler.Hal & Peggy lived in Show Low all of their married life.  Peggy loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and always had children at her home.  She was very active in public affairs, always supporting her husband. She spent many hours helping to establish a hospital in Show Low. Her efforts were realized when the Goldwater Hospital was built, which is now Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center. She was active in the LDS Church and supported her children in all of their activities. She loved the Relief Society where she enjoyed quilting, a talent she has displayed over the years, as she has made many quilts for all her friends and relatives. She was an active member in the order of the Eastern Star.She was always gracious and friendly to anyone she met and was always willing to give a helping hand. She was a great cook and you never went to her home that she wouldn't give you something to eat or drink. She always made you feel special and comfortable in her presence. She was preceded in death by parents, Leroy & Mauretta; brothers, Lynn, Loren, Devere, Don, Carl, Gerald, Victor, Ned & Denny; and sisters, Leola & Joan; and grandchild, Austin.She is survived by her husband, Hal; and her three sons, Gary (Gail), Greg (Denise), and David (Jean), 13 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren.A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00pm, Friday, September 15, at Owens Livingston Mortuary, 320 N. 9th St, Show Low, AZ. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 16, at 10:00 am at the Show Low LDS Stake Center, 1401 W. Deuce of Clubs,  with a viewing 1 hour prior. Burial will follow at the Show Low Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, Peggy's family would appreciate donations to local Hospice Compassus.
