Sophie (Skorupa) Nota, 92, of Pinetop passed into her Lord’s hands in the early evening of September 1, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Born February 25, 1925 in Perth Amboy, NJ to Polish immigrants who came to America in 1911. She married Ralph Nota of New Jersey in 1947. Sophie worked for Bambergers Department Store (now Macy’s) for many years in retail sales before retiring to Tucson in 1987 where she resided for 29 years before moving to Pinetop to be with her daughter and son-in-law. Sophie was well known in the White Mountains as she enjoyed shopping and dining out with her family. She was recognized as “mom” in many local places. She is survived by three of her five children, Christine (Jim) Warren of Pinetop, Ralph (Mary) Nota and Michael Nota all of New Jersey. In addition she had four grandsons, John Kaputa of New Mexico, Anthony of New Jersey, Jacob and Samuel of Massachusetts . She also had four great grandsons. A celebration of her life was held Saturday, September 2nd while close friends and family were in town. Interment will take place at a later date in Fords, NJ.
