Freda K. Quay

Surrounded by her family, Freda K. Quay quietly passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at her home in Whiteriver, Navajo County, Arizona.  She was 91 years old.  Freda was born on Sunday, January 10, 1926, in Upper Carrizo, Arizona to her parents, the late Clarence and Gertrude (Casey) Kessay. As a child, Freda attended school at Theodore Roosevelt School in Fort Apache, Arizona.  In her younger years, she worked as a live-in housekeeper for Reverend Edgar Guenther for many years.  Later, Freda worked in custodial services for Indian Health Services and as a housekeeper for many doctors and nurses in Whiteriver.  She also worked for a time at the Whiteriver Cafe.  On April 12th, sometime during the 1940s, Freda married Francis Quay, Sr. in the Whiteriver Lutheran Church.  He passed away on February 10, 2011.Freda was never one to idly squander her time.  When she wasn't working hard to provide for her large family, she enjoyed sewing, beading and embroidering.  These were skills and talents that she was able to teach to her own children.  Freda loved being outside in her garden and she grew the most beautiful roses, as they were her favorite flowers.  She was a lady of great faith and loved going to church to worship with her church family.  She was a prayer "warrior" and read regularly from The Holy Bible and abided by its precepts.  Freda was an example of goodness and kindness to all around her.  Freda is survived by 7 children:  Denver Quay, Ann Quay Skidmore (Dawsee), Loretta Quay Goklish (Floyd), Margaret Quay, Theda Quay (Gerald Nosie, Sr.), Karen Quay (Troy Henry), Francis Quay, Jr., all of Whiteriver, Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  Along with her parents and husband, Freda was preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis Adele Quay and all of her siblings, including:  Sam Kessay, Henry Kessay, Sr., Jonathan Kessay, Lois Baha, Nellie Ethelbah and Virginia Gloshay.A one day wake for Freda will begin 7:00 A.M., Friday, July 14, 2017, at the Quay Family Home, 610 N. 2nd Avenue in Whiteriver, Arizona.  The funeral service will begin 9:00 A.M., Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Whiteriver Assembly of God, 701 S. Chief Avenue in Whiteriver, Arizona.  The concluding service and interment will immediately follow at the Family Plot at Cooley Mountain in HonDah, Arizona.Freda's family is thankful for all of the expressions of sympathy they have received during this difficult season and are especially grateful for all of the prayers offered up on their behalf.
