Richard E. (Dick) Doane, 80, passed away May 18, 2017 at home from COPD. He was born October 21, 1936 in Three Rivers, MI the son of Horace K. and Mary Anita (McClellan) Doane, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Three Rivers High School, Class of 1954; attended Michigan State University; and spent 39 months in the US Army Security Agency, stationed at Ft Devons, MA. He worked for Continental Can Co. starting in Three Rivers after the service, moved to Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and back to Chicago. He then worked for Peterson Baby Products before going into his own business, Doane Marketing, as a Manufacturers’ Representative for several companies in the restaurant supply and janitorial supply industries. He headquartered in Tempe, AZ in 1975 and remained there until his retirement to Pinetop, AZ in 2003. He was Past President of Manufacturers’ Representatives of America, and earned the designation Certified Professional Manufacturers’ Representative (CPMR), in the Charter Class of 1991 at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. He was a member, Elder and Trustee of Community Presbyterian Church, Pinetop; 50+ year life member of White River Masonic Lodge # 69, Show Low, AZ; a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason; a member of El Zaribah Shriners, Phoenix, AZ; and President of the White Mountain Shrine Club. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of Tempe Elks Lodge # 2251, Tempe, AZ; and member and past Secretary of Show Low Elks Lodge # 2090, Show Low, AZ. He was President of the Doane Family Association of America, Inc. (DFA), for 10 years and currently a Regional Vice President. As Chairman of the Doane Family Foundation, in 2008 he established a new scholarship program for DFA members, their children and grandchildren. He has been board member of the Pinetop Community Association since 2010 serving as President(2013, 2014), Treasurer, Clerk and Compliance Inspector. Dick played a key role in the Association embracing Firewise principals and recognition as a Firewise USA Community. He was instrumental in building the relationship between the Association and local community support for the annual Pinetop Fire District-Pinetop Community Association Block Party event. He was married to Darilynn Townsend, from Three Rivers, MI, from 1958-1974. From this union came Michael (Laurie) of Payson, AZ; Christine Johnson Deems of Sun Lakes, AZ and David (Tanya) of Queen Creek, AZ. He was married to Mary Ann McCoy of Mattoon, IL from 1975 to 1988. He then married Mary Louise Huntley Jorgensen of Clear Lake, IA, who brought to this union son, Peter Rowell of Dubuque, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ted; his son-in-law John Deems; his second wife, Mary Ann; his brother-in-law JR Sindt. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his four (4) children, his sisters Mary Ann Sindt, Three Rivers, MI and Mary Lou (Bob) Thiessen, Richland, MI; brother Robert (Shirley), Fishers, IN; sister-in-law, Helen Jeanne Doane, Chelsea, MI; and five (5) grandchildren: D. Scott (Camille) Johnson, D. Shawn (Samatha) Johnson; Matthew (Danielle), Taryn and Garrett Doane; great-grandchildren: Jayson & Everett Johnson. A memorial service will be held May 27, 2017 at 11 AM at Elks Lodge # 2090, 805 East Whipple, Show Low, AZ.
