Velva Jean Zahgotah, 58, of Whiteriver, Arizona passed away on January 31, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on April 24, 1958 in Whiteriver to Earl Zahgotah and Marie (Ethelbah) Alchesay. Velva loved to cook for big dinners and was always helping with wakes making sure the kitchen was run properly. She enjoyed traditional beadwork and was always the life of the party. A great sense of humor she was always cracking jokes. A literal walking jukebox, she could sing any 60’s, 70’s or 80’s song and tell you the artist and album. She especially loved her old vinyl records and 8 track tapes. She also had a great love of cats. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Brienne White; 2 sons, Keenan and Lenny Suttle as well as her parents and a brother, Duane Zahgotah. Velva is survived by her daughter, Velcena Massy; sons, Austin Nez, Matthew Cook (Jessica) and Erryl Zahgotah all of Whiteriver; 12 grandchildren; sister, Irene Ethelbah of Whiteriver and Maria Hensley of St. Johns as well as many extended family members and friends. A one night wake will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the family home, 801 N. 1st Street, Whiteriver. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the North Fork Miracle Church with the interment to follow in the Whiteriver Cemetery.
