Vermel Sue Acosta, 69, born December 14, 1946 to John F. and Wilma Josephine (Scott) Dobkins in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sue was taken by Angels to our Heavenly Father on September 19, 2016. Sue’s passing was due to a long hard fought battle with an inherited Kidney Disease and most recently Cancer of the stomach. Sue originally moved to Pinetop/Lakeside in 1963 and lived with her Aunt and Uncle (Mel and Jack Harris) who at that time owned Whispering Pines Resort. She was a graduate of Blue Ridge High School in 1965, the last Senior Class to attend the old High School which is now the Pinetop Lakeside Police Department and Lakeside City complex. Sue married her husband of 50 years, George Dee Acosta, on June 3 1966 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sue’s husband had joined the Air Force in 1965. She accompanied her husband to seven military bases during those 20 years. While stationed at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sue gave birth to their two children, Deanna Sue and John Dee. Sue ensured that there was always a loving and caring environment, wherever they were stationed. There is an old Mexican saying: a house rests on a foundation. A home rests on the shoulders of a good woman. Sue was an outstanding woman!!! After Dee retired from the Military at Luke AFB in Glendale, AZ the Acosta Family returned to the White Mountains, specifically, Pinetop where they have lived for the past 31 years. Sue made many friends during this segment of her life. She was loved by all, especially her family. She will be dearly missed, but will always be in our hearts and memories. Sue leaves behind her husband of 50 years, George Dee; daughter, Deanna Sue Ramsey of Pinetop; son, John Dee of Show Low; granddaughter, Kathryn “Josie” Layton; great-grandchildren, Daisy Lynn and Easton Christopher Thompson and many dear cousins, Mel (Lee), Linda Lee, Abbi (Jim), Franny and Carol Sue, just to name a few. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 11:00 A.M. October 7, 2016. It is requested in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society or National Kidney Foundation.
