David Foil passed away on July 13th, 2016 at his home in Pinetop, Arizona. He was born in 1922 in Bogalusa, Louisiana. His parents David A. Foil, Sr. and Wilner E. (McDaniel) Foil moved to McNary, Arizona in 1938. They lived in McNary until during the war. Both David and his brother Sid served in the military, overseas during the war. When WWII was over, both of them returned to their parents and sister, Elizabeth, who then lived in Winslow, Arizona. It did not take long for Maxine Bagwell to catch his eye as she sang in the church choir. They married one year, to the day, from him returning home. In 1950, they moved to Show Low, Arizona where they raised five children: Ron, Mike, Sharon, Carolyn and Paula. In 2012, David and Maxine moved to Pinetop to live with Carolyn. Maxine passed away in December of 2013, leaving David the lone survivor from his generation in his family for the past two years. He is survived by all five children and 13 grandchildren, along with a whole bunch of great grandchildren. While living in Show Low, David served on the first city council and later was the mayor. He worked to improve the airport, bring a modern hospital to town, served on the board for the fire department, developed several subdivisions (including Show Low Country Club), and was a leader in his church-Bible Chapel. In 2015, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross medal for an act of bravery in WWII. In spite of all of his service and accomplishments, he wanted to be remembered as a Bible teacher. He was still teaching, at the age of 94, Wednesday night Bible studies to about 25 adults in his home.A memorial service will be held at White Mountain Bible Church, located on Show Low Lake Road, Saturday the 30th of July at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the building fund for White Mountain Bible Church. Arrangements were handled by Owens Livingston Mortuary-White Mountain Chapel in Show Low, Arizona.
